punctuation [giveaway closed]

I'm a girly girl who loves all kinds of jewelry but the simple pieces in my jewelry box are my favorite. Simple, dainty pieces are staples in my closet. They're timeless, easy to wear, and easy to pair with other pieces. This is exactly why I instantly fell in love with Punctuation - simple, modern, everyday jewelry! The pieces pictured above are some of my favorites. I could seriously wear them all!

Today, the lovely Jacqueline from Punctuation is giving one of you this Black Tourmaline Bracelet pictured above!
In love with everything else in her shop? She's offering
20% off any item(s) with code JESSICA20

that sh*t cray

I recently received an email from a fellow blogger who wanted to swap buttons with me. She changed her mind a few days later when she saw this post. She said that she has 2 young kids and that kind of language was not something she wanted to "support or promote" and that it was "out of her comfort zone". I'm not upset with her at all. I thanked her for her honesty and meant it. (BTW- I encourage all of you to check the "about" section on blogs that you are considering advertising with, as mine clearly states that I have a potty mouth.)

Anyway, this brought up a subject that I don't really understand. Why do some bloggers only choose to work with "family-friendly" blogs and businesses? What does MY language on MY blog have to do with YOUR children? Are your children reading my blog? If so, they shouldn't be.

Do I have kids? No. But if I did, I am 99% sure that my language would not change except when I was in front them. And again, I don't think children are reading this blog. We are all adults here. I guess I have just never understood what the big deal is.

I don't discriminate with advertising requests from other bloggers but maybe I should start being more selective...? Oh you blog about your baby? Nope, not for me. What you hate dogs?! Nope, can't work with you.

It drives me crazy when people who "don't use curse words" say things like "F that" or "I hate that shizz" or "she's acting like a b word" (I could keep going..).. I mean if you are against using certain words, that's fine. But don't half-ass it. (oops I used the a-word)

There's obviously a time and place to speak certain ways. As I said here, I know when it's appropriate and when it's not and I think that's really all that matters.

Again, I'm not upset with anyone. I really do just want to know your opinions about this. I want to understand it. This is a take it or leave it kind of blog and if you can't take it, please don't be afraid to leave it.

Alright, I'm out this bitch! (sorry, I had to..)

Maka what? Yea, I know. I thought that too. The lingo here takes some getting used to but it's pretty easy to catch on to after a while. Anyway, there's an area beside the Makapu'u Lighthouse Trail (I'm not sure what it it's called... and I probably should have researched that before writing this!) that we visit often. It's one of our favorite spots on the island.
To get there, you have to walk about a mile through a field with views of mountains to your left and right and the ocean ahead of you. Once you reach the water you can head to the left where there's a little cove with sand that's perfect for laying out and swimming. There's rarely anyone there which makes it a perfect place to take Duke. He loves it there. He's a beach lover and this one is definitely his favorite. It's like having a private beach all to ourselves.
If you head to the right, there's a rocky area that's so beautiful. It's really a surreal place to be.
Here are some pictures from our most recent visit!

When I start feeling homesick (that will happen a lot more during the holidays) will you remind me of how lucky I am to live here? What are some of your favorite places in the world?

are u a no-reply blogger? [all bloggers should read this!]

simply square button

Wanna know something that makes me really really sad? When someone leaves a super awesome comment on my blog, I instantly fall in love with them and want to chat, I click to reply to them via email, and BOOM. My whole world shatters because I can't. Why? Because they are a no-reply blogger- meaning their email address is not attached to their blogger account-- so no one can reply!

Lots of you have heard this before (I know I have heard it a million times).
But lots of you have not and probably still have no idea what I'm talking about (I was clueless about this during my first few months of blogging) and I know this for a FACT because I haven't been able to respond to over 50% of the latest comments here!

So instead of walking you through this and repeating what's already been done, READ THIS for info on how to find out if you're a no-reply blogger and how to change it!

Spread the word!

UPDATE!!!: Several of you have commented on this post thinking that you have fixed this problem, but the majority of you are still no-reply bloggers! If I did not reply to you, chances are that it's because I can't and you still have not fixed the problem. I've heard that this is an issue with Google +.
After several attempts, one of our fellow bloggers was able to fix her issue. I asked her to explain this to you all and here's what she had to say:
"Hey Jess, as requested... The instructions in the tutorial are outdated now that blogger has upgraded. In order to make the changes you simply click the little gear icon next to where it says English (or whichever language). The drop down will give you the option to either connect or disconnect from your Google+ profile. For me, I had to disconnect them. Then I could follow the directions in the tutorial. I'm not sure why but Google+ makes you a no-reply blogger if you have the accounts linked." Thanks Michael!!

last minute halloween costumes

Corner Shop Cop Costume Tee - Urban Outfitters

Daydreamer LA Sweatshirt - Urban Outfitters
As usual, I've procrastinated and have no costume for this weekend's Halloween festivities! So.. I'm totally thinking of rocking one of these tops from Urban Outfitters. Are they totally inappropriate? I personally think they're hilarious. I'd accessorize and wear makeup accordingly of course.
What do you think? What are you dressing up as this year?

P.S.S. Hawaii people:: are any of you going to this event??

in my opinion..

I've been wanting to link up with Rachel for this and I'm finally doing it today! So without further ado..

** Disclaimer: Do not read if you have no sense of humor, are easily offended, or only enjoy your own opinions. **

In my opinion..

+ There are no "rules" in blogging.

+ Texas is the best country on earth (this one is a fact, not an opinion).

+ Dogs are better than cats.

Duke Jameson Taylor
+ Duke is the most attractive pup ever.

+ There's no right way to fall in love. When you know, you know.

+ It does not have to be 5 o'clock anywhere for it to be ok to have an adult beverage.

+ Bloody Mary's are a great way to add veggies to your diet.

+ Family doesn't always translate to "related by blood".

+ All bugs should be killed.

+ Kissing underwater is really hard to do.

+ Football should always be watched with a beer in hand.

+ Olivia and Elliott should reunite.

+ Laughing is an essential part of marriage.

+ No day should be started without coffee.

+ Some people should be forced to take birth control.

+ Cowboys are better when they're naked.

+ Nothing productive can happen before 9 am.

+ Anyone who does not have a Facebook account is a serial killer and/or lives a double life.

+ Popcorn tastes better with pickles and hot sauce.

+ Plane tickets should be cheaper - everyone deserves the chance to travel.

+ Handwritten notes are underrated.

+ Desserts are a necessary part of any meal.. and they don't always have to be the last part.

What's your opinion?

exquisite corpse

Exquisite Corpse | LN-CC
How badass are these skulls by Exquisite Corpse? I had to share them! Each skull is completely unique and intricately covered with colorful beads. So rad! They're pretty pricey, but here are a few other pieces of Halloween decor that I'm diggin'.. and these won't empty your wallets :)

What do you think? I'm not big on decorating for every holiday but I like a few accents here and there. Are you decorating this season?

P.S. I NEVER say the words "rad" or diggin'"... but today, it just felt right!

P.S.S. If you want some FREE exposure (why wouldn't you?!) for your blog or business, I'd highly suggest that you sign up to be a part of Yellow Umbrella's upcoming giveaway! The more of us that sign up, the bigger reach! DO IT! I did :)

letting go

As I mentioned here, I have a serious problem with letting go of grudges.
It's always been a struggle of mine and as I get older (and wiser!) I think I am finally starting to figure out why I am the way I am.

I honestly consider myself to be a genuinely nice person. Yes, I have a mean girl inside that likes to make an appearance sometimes but I can't ever remember a time when I was mean to someone or hurt someone for no reason at all. I guess I expect the same from others.
So when someone does hurt me, even if it's in the slightest way, I wonder why. What did I do? What did I say? I wonder to the point that it eats me up inside, ruins my day(s), and probably affects me a lot more than it does them.

I'm finally realizing that we aren't all built the same.. that not everyone is the kind of friend that I want them to be.. that the things that hurt my feelings may not hurt theirs.. that some people just don't care about the same things that I care about. And (maybe most importantly) that some people are just assholes.

As usual, I've learned these things the hard way.

Let me clarify that just because someone is different, does not mean that I think they're an asshole (unless of course they are an asshole :)). I just need to remind myself not to expect everyone to view life and relationships like I do. That just sets me up for disappointment.

Not everyone I meet is going to become my best friend. Not everyone I meet is going to like me.

And that's ok.

Please tell me I'm not the only person who thinks like this!

How do you let go, move on, and rid of a grudge? This isn't a rhetorical question. I really want to know!

cheerfully charmed [giveaway closed]

I have to admit, I had the hardest time matching this necklace with an outfit. Bright colors make me nervous which is probably why my closet is full of neutrals. As much as I love statement necklaces and bright colors on other people, it makes me nervous when they're on me! Living in a Hawaii, where there's 12 months of a season I like to call "paradise", has definitely forced some more color in my life!

Lucky for you, the lovely folks at Cheerfully Charmed are going to add some color into your life today!

Who says just because summer's gone you have to lose your color?
Enter to win an item of your choice from Cheerfully Charmed!
